JOB DESCRIPTION

The Director of Investment Research at TwinFocus works alongside the Senior Director of Investment Research and Chief Investment Officer (CIO) to develop, research, recommend and direct the execution of investment strategies for the firm’s clients. The Director reports to the firm’s Senior Director of Investment Research and works in conjunction with the Portfolio Advisory Group and Client Advisory Group.

The Director will adopt a consultative approach with the firm’s partners and the Client Advisors to develop and execute investment strategies. These strategies are framed by TwinFocus’ investment philosophy and based on current themes and client objectives across all asset classes and product types including individual securities, mutual funds, ETFs, limited partnerships, direct investments, real estate, privates, and options.

TwinFocus maintains a focus on alternative investments to maximize returns commensurate with an acceptable level of risk for each of the firm’s clients. The successful candidate will be an experienced generalist with deep knowledge of all areas of alternative investing. The Director will be expected to make timely recommendations on Hedge Funds (across all strategies), Private Equity, Insurance Linked Products, Real Estate, commodity products, and currency products. The Director is expected to make and disseminate these recommendations by drafting comprehensive Manager Due Diligence memoranda.

The Director will perform extensive due diligence and investment research, keep informed of developments in global markets and the alternative investment management industry and confer with both internal advisors and outside product providers, managers, and in select cases, company management, to determine the appropriateness of investment decisions across different portfolios and under different market conditions and client circumstances.

The Director will review established investment policy guidelines for each client to effectively manage client portfolios of various sizes as an investment expert who is committed to taking a proactive and innovative approach in providing investment expertise and a high degree of value add to enhance overall client performance and satisfaction. The Director will be part of the Management and Investment teams, reporting directly to the Senior Director of Investment Research and indirectly to the CIO and Managing Partners. The Director will help shape the firm’s investment policies, philosophy, and processes.

Additionally, the Director will work to analyze, assemble and design investment strategies for prospective clients and assist with the implementation of such programs. The Director will also participate in variety of investment strategy/policy committees, as appropriate, and may be called upon to represent the firm, either in print interviews or speaking at conferences and professional seminars.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 4-5 years of due diligence experience with alternative strategies; 7 years of total investment experience
  • Rapid decision making ability using a consistent well-reasoned approach
  • Ability to multi-task in a highly visible fast-paced and team-oriented environment
  • Experience communicating complex investment strategies with individual and institutional clients, prospects, centers of influence and team members
  • Proven ability to resolve complex client investment objectives, constraints and preferences
  • Ability to exercise good judgment by recognizing urgency and prioritizing tasks accordingly
  • Knowledge of Bloomberg and Morningstar
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills
  • Extremely detail-oriented and proactive
  • Ability to think outside of the box
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team player
  • Excellent communication skills – i.e., written, verbal and presentation
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing business and technology environment
  • Advanced academic degrees and professional designations (CFA, CAIA) preferred
